Each of us imagines that we possess the absolute truth, and in every discussion between two individuals, groups, or communities of people about a particular topic, each party is keen to support their point of view with evidence, proofs, and reasons that they consider correct and that, from their perspective, represent the whole truth.
Truth is a beloved word to all people, and it represents a pressing need for humanity in all their life interactions. However, since the beginning of creation, it has transformed from a word that builds human life and regulates its rhythm and balance into one of the main causes that create conflict and ignite material or moral wars. Truth was supposed to be a goal that we all strive for with diligence and sincerity, but instead of using our efforts and energies to achieve this goal, we have exhausted them in fierce wars of denigration, slander, and defamation against our fellow believers who adhere to the truth according to their perspective and interpretation, which differs from ours.
The story is not new, and the perspective and method are repetitive and recurring. The principle of defending my ideas and principles that I believe in and embrace by slandering others and belittling their beliefs has been happening since the beginning of creation. The principle of accusing others of selling, buying, or profiting from adhering to and promoting specific beliefs is also known since we heard about Jacob and learned about Esau.
Can we say about what we write and present to people that it is the truth and nothing but the truth?
The answer is no! Everything we study, declare, and present to people is nothing more than a sincere attempt to approach the truth with all possible energy and available thought, and to declare it to people. The Apostle Luke says about the people of Berea, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). Undoubtedly, what the apostle said serves as a warning and an encouragement to us about the necessity of studying and researching.
Do not forget what the Lord said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
Seek the truth, no matter the cost.
