Our attempt to arrange all the stories in order is, for the most part, merely a supposition. Yet even such an artificial systematization of when and where Jesus carried out His ministry helps to understand how and why He did what He did. Thus, a sequential approach to the life of Jesus is interesting and useful, but the chronology itself is sometimes conditional. The evangelists do not simply tell the story of Jesus; each of them uses a vocabulary and literary style unique to him and expresses his own theological interests. This book does not attempt to silence the unique voice of each evangelist. On the contrary, special attention in this book is given to what each of the Evangelists adds (or omits), which is why the same stories are placed side by side.
