The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When a man or woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to dedicate themselves to the Lord, they must abstain from wine and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar made from wine or other fermented drink, nor drink any grape juice, nor eat fresh grapes or raisins. Throughout the period of their vow, they must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, from the seeds to the skin. Throughout the period of their vow of separation, no razor may touch their head. Until the days of their dedication to the Lord are completed, they must be holy and let the hair of their head grow long. Throughout the period of their dedication to the Lord, they must not go near a dead body. Even if their father or mother, brother or sister dies, they must not defile themselves for them, because the dedication to their God is on their head.’” on his head. “He is holy to the Lord all the days of his vow.”
“But if someone dies suddenly beside him, and he defiles the head of his vow, then he shall shave his head on the day of his purification; on the seventh day he shall shave it. “And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the priest, to the entrance of the tent of meeting. “And the priest shall offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering and make atonement for him for what he has sinned concerning the dead person, and he shall consecrate his head on that day. “And he shall dedicate to the Lord the days of his vow and bring a male lamb a year old as a guilt offering; but the former days shall be void, because he defiled his vow.”
