Interpreting the Book of Revelation is a risky business. Saint Jerome has said that it contains as many mysteries as words, and to this day many preachers in pious awe try to avoid dealing with it whenever possible.
For the longest time, the early Church did not dare to include the Revelation (Greek: “apocalypse”) among the texts that it considered to be the word of God, and Martin Luther wanted to remove it from the canon, believing that this New Testament book reveals nothing.
The persecuted Church of the late first century did not need riddles or charades. It needed support, comfort, and encouragement. And the visions sent to John provided that. This book analyzes the main theme of the Revelation of the Apostle John – the joyful confidence of God’s people in the midst of difficulties and persecution.

Тлумачити Книгу Об’явлення – заняття ризиковане. Блаженний Ієронім казав, що в ній стільки ж таємниць, скільки слів, ідо цього дня багато проповідників у побожному трепеті намагаються за можливості не мати з нею справи.
Саме Об’явлення (грецькою – «апокаліпсис») рання Церква найдовше не наважувалася включити в число текстів, які мала за Боже слово і з яких уклала згодом канон Нового Завіту. А Мартін Лютер хотів вилучити її з канону, вважаючи, що ця новозавітна книга нічого не відкриває.
Гнаній Церкві кінця Першого століття не потрібні були загадки або шаради. Їй потрібні були підтримка, втіха, підбадьорення. І бачення, послані Іоанну, дають їй все це. Тайнознавець не проголошує нових богословських доктрин і не повідомляє жодних нових знань. Знань нам вистачає. Вистачило б стійкості.
Дана книга розкриває головну тему «Одкровення Іоанна Богослова» – радісну впевненість Божого народу посеред труднощів і гонінь.
