WILL L. THOMPSON menuliskan syair ini
pada awal abad ke-20 untuk menggambarkan Yesus
dari Nazaret. Orang Kristen pada setiap abad telah me-
nyanyikan pengalaman akan kehadiran Allah kepada
umat-Nya ini ketika mereka merenungkan tentang
Bapa, Anak dan Roh Kudus.
Ajukanlah pertanyaan, siapakah yang dimaksud
oleh Alkitab mengenai “Sang Penolong”? Maka “Roh
Kudus” adalah jawabannya. Selain itu, Yesus sendiri
juga telah memberi jaminan kepada murid-murid-Nya,

“Aku akan minta kepada Bapa, dan la akan memberi-
kan kepadamu seorang Penolong yang lain, supaya la
menyertai kamu selama-lamanya” (Yoh.14:16). Kata
“Penolong yang lain” mempunyai arti bahwa apa yang
sudah dilakukan oleh Yesus terhadap rasul-rasul-Nya
ketika Dia menjadi manusia, hal itu juga yang akan
dilakukan oleh Roh Kudus terhadap pengikut-Nya di
seluruh dunia setelah kenaikan Yesus ke sorga.

WILL L. THOMPSON wrote this poem
in the early 20th century to depict Jesus
from Nazareth. Christians in every century have
sing about the experience of God’s presence to
His people when they ponder about
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Ask the question, who is meant
by the Bible regarding “The Helper”? So “Spirit
Holy” was the answer. Moreover, Jesus himself
He also gave assurance to His disciples,

“I will ask the Father, and he will give me
give you another helper, so that he
be with you forever” (John 14:16). Said
“Another helper” means that which is
Jesus did this to His apostles
when He becomes man, that too will be
carried out by the Holy Spirit towards His followers in
throughout the world after Jesus’ ascension to heaven.
