“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” It’s hard to believe these words came from a prisoner. Although I’ve never been in jail, I’ve been confined to a room, taken to the police station, or guarded by the police all night for the sake of the gospel. Whatever form of confinement, losing freedom is always unpleasant; even I, a usually cheerful person, became expressionless. But Paul says we should rejoice in the Lord always (even when under confinement).
