घमण्ड, क्रोध, जलन, आलस्य, पेटूपन, लालच और व्यभिचार
ऐसी बुराइयाँ हैं जो मानव स्वभाव में सामान्यतः पाईं जाती हैं। इन बुराइयों
को जब मनुष्य अपने हृदय में पनपने देता है तब ये बुराइयाँ विकराल रूप
धारण कर मनुष्य को पाप की ओर प्रेरित करती हैं। इन बुराइयों को घातक
इसलिए कहा गया है क्योंकि इनके द्वारा न सिर्फ़ मनुष्य अपने शरीर,
योग्यताओं, समय तथा संबंधित व्यक्तियों के साथ अपने संबंधों का विच्छेद
करता है किन्तु परमेश्वर के साथ भी अपने संबंध तोड़कर अपनी आत्मा
का अनन्त विनाश कर सकता है।
इस प्रकार ये बुराइयाँ न सिर्फ सांसारिक जीवन के लिए हानिकारक
हैं किन्तु आत्मिक जीवन के लिए भी त्रासदीपूर्ण और घातक हो सकती
हैं।

Pride, anger, jealousy, laziness, gluttony, greed, and adultery are evils commonly found in human nature. When a person allows these evils to flourish in his heart, they take a monstrous form and lead him to sin. These vices are called deadly because they not only sever a person’s relationship with their body, abilities, time, and related individuals, but can also sever their relationship with God, causing eternal destruction to their soul.

Thus, these vices are not only harmful to worldly life but can also be tragic and fatal to spiritual life.

We are unaware of their symptoms. We fail to recognize these vices as deadly sins.

Many times, people’s negligence towards these vices is due to a lack of proper knowledge about them.
