Singing is a Sacrifice of Praise
Safaa Fahmi et al.
Praise is the most wonderful, beautiful, and enjoyable gift a person can offer to God. It is a place of rest where God delights in His people, and it teaches the act of giving. Most of the time, when a person offers praise to God, there is no room for receiving, because praise is an acknowledgment of the Lord’s greatness and power, an acknowledgment of His goodness, and a recognition that this God is the Lord and the Creator. It is an acknowledgment of God, a declaration, a proclamation, and a broadcasting of God’s virtues, attributes, beauty, splendor, and goodness. It is a declaration of everything in God and about God.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who formerly were not a people, but now are the people of God; who had not received mercy, but now have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:9-10) This special status and this mercy cause the tongue to burst forth in praise of this wonderful, great, good, and loving God. The psalmist sings these words: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the rivers. Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.
They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior.
Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.
Selah. Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.”
