Traps for Travelers (Ukrainian)
Author: Sergei Golovin
Biblical heroes often called themselves refugees and immigrants. We, the followers of Christ, share the fate of those who “seek a better, heavenly homeland” and are aware “that they are strangers and sojourners on earth” (Hebrews 11:16, 13).
The life of a traveler is not easy. First, we face the same problems as the world in which most travel. These are wars and epidemics, disasters and cataclysms, diseases and suffering, loss of loved ones and approaching death.
Secondly, we as foreigners suffer from the world itself. They see us as a threat and as easy prey. The stranger is always the first in line to be accused and persecuted.
Thirdly, traps await us, falling into which we risk forgetting our true purpose. We can forget that we don’t belong here: inappropriate and untimely. Temporary guests and foreigners.
“It’s useless to spread nets in front of a bird. These people…lay an ambush for their own lives,” warns the wise Solomon (Proverbs 1:17-18). Therefore, it is very important to be able to recognize the dangers lurking in front of us.
